TFC Chairmans message
Dear All,
Firstly may I say how welcome I have been made by everyone at the club, not only as Chairman but when I first moved to Whitstable with my son and we joined the club. The ethos of the club as epitomised by Tim Elgar, now chairman of trustees, and his executive team is something I hope to maintain and with the rest of the executive build on.
I would like to congratulate the following people as winners of our end of season awards.
Phil Barton who I have known since I joined the club five years ago. He really is an unsung hero who has ensured that all the coaches have up to date CRBs and are fully aware of their responsibilities to ensure that all our players are safe and happy. He deals with the week to week issues normally thrown up by the behaviour of other people not associated with our club in a tactful but firm manner. Without his dedication we would not have the safe environment for our players that Tankerton FC provides. So it gives me great pleasure to recognise his effort with The Chairman’s Award for contribution to the club.
Paul Kingston who not only looks after the pitches and ensures all the players have freshly cut and lined pitches to play on but also coaches his team. As a coach he had to deal with probably one of the hardest tasks any youth football coach could have to deal with - the untimely and unexpected death of one of his players. He not only led the club in supporting the player’s family but reassured and led his team through what could have been a traumatic event and turned it into a positive experience for all the players who are now proud to compete each year in the TURK1NAT0R cup in memory of Bailey. A very well deserved Coach of the Year.
Jasmin Connolly and Freddie Wells, who joined the club as teenagers studying in Canterbury. Both took on the responsibility of coaching teams and they are both moving on to the next adventures in their lives and careers. Whilst this is a great loss to Tankerton FC, we all wish them well for the future and know they will have great success in whatever they choose to do. As coaches they have demonstrated the club values of fun and inclusion and as a consequence have built up very strong squads of happy and successful players. We are delighted to give them the Adam Bowey Trophy, named after our founder, as true representatives of TFC.
Moving on from the awards I would personally like to thank the many people who made Fun Day such a success for the hundreds of children at TFC. People turned up on both Thursday and Friday evenings and early on Saturday morning to make sure that we had pitches with goals ready to play on, BBQs, stalls and games to play. Dave, Phil, Donna & Julie along with Paul Kingston, Graeme Sturt, Tania, Ade, Toby and Ian French who as a new coach has really stepped up to help. Bowie for arranging and constructing the podium, Ja for refereeing the Seniors and thanks to Iggy for being photographer for the day and youth council member Adam for keeping the Facebook and Twitter feeds going through the day. A special mention to Terry for unblocking the loo on Saturday morning, not what you expect to be doing as a football coach!
I am sure you will all join me in thanking all the coaches who not only put on a great day for their teams but have turned out for training and matches every week throughout the season ensuring that all our players have something to celebrate at the end of the season.
Well done to everyone involved this year.
Please sign up for the club’s Facebook and Twitter feeds to keep up to date with everything that is happening at the club and with opportunities for you to volunteer to help.
Once again a massive thank you to everyone who made Fun Day such a great success!
Regards
